2019-2020
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
For my Social Studies Families:
In sixth grade social studies, we study world geography. It sounds kind of dull, right??? The thing is...geography is not just about maps and memorizing countries and capitals and bodies of water. These maps are about people and their stories. Borders are not just political boundaries, they are the results of humans interacting with their environment; humans struggling to maintain ideals; governments providing and destroying freedoms. The stories that maps hold can teach us about each other and about ourselves. They can create empathy and understanding. I am so excited to share these stories and learn new ones as this year unfolds!
We will be learning about the world through 5 Big Questions:
The following 2 questions will umbrella our entire year:
Students will be completing activities to better understand these questions. Our year will be filled with inquiry and discussion. We will culminate the year by attempting to address more specific issues the world faces currently.
